Gen 5 also uses a regular rifling barrel, Gen 5 for me has a nicer trigger and uses a single pin to hold it all, a mag flair on all models except the 19X, and finally the most noticable Gen 5 uses a different coating method than Gen 4.
What I noticed; the increased grip size of the 19x makes it preferable/more controllable shooting vs the standard 19 (gen 4, no experience w/gen 5). The shorter/lighter slide of the 19 makes it cycle quicker (perceived as softer to you maybe?) than a 17. The shorter sight radius makes it easy to track as well.
At 5.47 inches, the Model 17 has a frame that is taller by just under half an inch than the Model 19’s 5.04 inches. The Model 17 weighs 32.3 ounces unloaded. The smaller Model 19 weighs 23.6 ounces. One had the slide lock release lever spring jump out of place. I am not a fan of the ambidextrous slide release lever modification Glock did in the Gen 5. I currently have, and/or have owned 7 Glock Gen 3's.
