The Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro boasts L-series designation, weather sealing, and Canon’s four-stop hybrid image-stabilization system. The hybrid image-stabilization system compensates for linear and rotational shake, making image stabilization more effective at close distances. Advanced Optics and Focusing.
Canon 100mm f/2.8 L for Video. Using telephotos on video is usually a recipe for jello-y, shaky disaster unless you have a sandbagged tripod in a windless studio. But not with this lens. The Canon 100mm f/2.8 L’s image stabilization is top tier, meaning you can hand hold this sucker without needing a gimbal and still get stable shots. In this case, we are talking about the classic Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. Almost no explanation is needed about why this combo is so great—it pairs a fast normal lens with a versatile, yet specialized telephoto optic. The 50mm is perhaps the most ubiquitous lens available today, and was the standard 35mm camera kit DOF on the Canon MP-E 65mm Macro Lens ranges from 2.240mm (1x, f/16) to .048 (5x, f/2.8). At 5x and f/16, the MP-E gives a minute .269mm DOF. This sounds worse than it really is as a grain of rice (says Canon) can fill the viewfinder. Subjects this tiny generally do not need as much DOF as something like a flower.
The 100mm L lens gets consistent 5-star reviews, everywhere I look.. EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens: About as small as I can get with this lens. EF 100mm f2.8L USM IS Macro Lens - Breaking waves in the afternoon. EF 100mm f/2.8L USM IS Macro lens: My friend metal detecting with his wife.
My RF 100mm f2.8L Macro review versus the EF 100mm f2.8L Macro!Canon RF 100mm f2.8L Macro at B&H: Product description. Manufacturer description: The AT-X 100 PRO D is a new macro lens capable of life-sized (1:1) reproduction at 11.8 in. (30 cm). The lens' multi-coating have been re-engineered to match the highly reflective silicon based CCD and CMOS sensors in today's digital SLR cameras. This lens gives the best of both worlds because
Canon’s own 100mm f/2 lens has a rather pathetic .14x magnification (much like 85mm lenses), so the Milvus 100mm and its .50x magnification suddenly looks pretty good. Another unique feature of the Zeiss 100mm has been a maximum aperture of f/2 which allows in twice the light of competing f/2.8 lenses.
Canon 100mm f2.8L @ f5.6 crop of tap. In the tap series, note again the sharpness straight off the bat at f2, which is similar to the Canon at f2.8. Zeiss sharpness is already incredible at f2.8 and clearly superior to the Canon at the same aperture, although by f5.6 both lenses are excellent.
So once again, the lenses I have in mind are the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro (non-L) and the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro. Both of these lenses are excellent. I had planned on the Sigma for some time - as it appears to possibly be a bit better optically than the Canon. However I got the Canon L on sale for a lot less than the Sigma.
